Each winter, a special event takes place in San Luis Obispo!
What We Do
For the past 27 years, the SLO Community Holiday Feast (established in 1997) has warmly welcomed our county’s unhoused population and anyone in need on Christmas day. We provide a delicious home-cooked holiday dinner along with live musical entertainment. This occasion is used to gift those experiencing homelessness with much-needed winter clothing care packages to help them survive the Central Coast’s cold, wet winters. Our care packages typically contain brand-new sleeping bags, hooded sweatshirts, winter jackets, socks, scarves, gloves, underwear, reusable drawstring bags, hand warmers, and toiletry bags. The Care Packages for Christmas Campaign (established in 1998) has enabled us to obtain this much-needed merchandise.
In 2023, 700 meals and care packages were distributed at the Odd Fellow’s Hall in downtown SLO and delivered throughout San Luis Obispo County to unhoused individuals and housed families struggling.
SLO Community Cares, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was created to oversee and support the SLO Community Holiday Feast and the Care Packages for Christmas Campaign.
